LEMON CANDIES
Chemo can leave a bad taste in your mouth—in a literal way. Patients frequently complain about “metal mouth,” which can make certain types of food taste like you’re sucking on a roll of pennies. Lemon candies are a great way to combat this side effect, and they can also help prevent dry mouth. Plus, you can finally justify not wanting to share your candy.
“Always go to chemo with candies. When they access your port, they flush it with some kind of saline so you immediately get a weird metal taste in your mouth. I make sure to be sucking on a lemon candy so I don’t taste it, and then it’s over before you know it.” - Stephanie G., diagnosed at 28
